Today I will be talking about a very important topic which is plastic pollution. I think this is a very serious and important topic to talk about and there is so much pollution in the ocean that causes global warming. Global warming is when the earth is getting hotter each day and it causes this effects to happen. Most of the plastic pollution is rotten plastic, oil spills, and trash, which are many different species. Plastic is one of the most common ocean pollutants because it does not break down rapidly and ocean life often mistake it for food. Thousands of trash and waste are dumped into the oceans around the world. This pollution kills more than one million sea birds each year. Fishing nets kill approximately 300,000 dolphins and porpoises every year because they can get tangled and sometimes can not get out which leads to death.
I decided to write about this because most of our waste that is dumped into the ocean will end up on the coast polluting everything it comes into contact with, including beaches, animals, and sea life. There is a specific ocean garbage site off the coast of California which is twice as big as the state of Texas. It is called the North Pacific Gyre and is the biggest ocean garbage site in the world. Oil spills pollute the ocean but it only accounts for approximately 12% of the oil polluting the ocean. Other oil either reaches the ocean from land or either through drainage.

I think this is ridiculous because people are all about saving the world but when its time to take action they don't do it. In order to help our planet we need to limit our self from throwing away plastic when we can reuse it. Another thing we can do is use bottles that aren't plastic, or we can stop buying plastic bags, and we should stop using plastic straws. Toxic metals reach the ocean and contribute to ocean pollution, destroying reproduction, behavior, growth and the biochemistry of the ocean's life. Plastic that reaches the ocean is capable of absorbing the toxic chemicals polluting the water. When an animal consumes the plastic it is then poisoned. Radioactive waste and industrial waste such as acids and toxins often reach the ocean, which leads to the loss of ocean life. It happens fast because when the little creatures get poisoned it then gets eaten by a bigger animal, which also poisons the animal which leaves to a big number of deaths. Study shows that every square mile of ocean has more than 45,000 pieces of plastic floating in it.
